Scanning
How do I scan?
Tap Scan and point the camera at the page. A blue outline follows the page edges and turns green when you hold still; with Auto on, the page is captured after about a second. Move on to the next page and it captures again. Tap Done when finished.
Tips for the best result
- Put the page on a darker surface than the paper.
- Good, even light helps; the light button turns on the flashlight.
- Shooting at an angle is fine: ClearScan straightens the page and restores its real proportions.
The border is a little off
Open the page and tap Crop. Drag the corners (a magnifier shows exactly where they are), or tap Auto Detect to find the page again.
Changing the look
Each page can be Enhanced (shadows removed, white paper), Original, Gray or B&W. Pages that were photographed sideways or upside down are turned upright automatically; Rotate turns them by hand.
Documents and PDFs
Merging documents
On the Scans screen tap Select, choose the documents and tap Merge. Set the order and the name; you can keep or delete the separate documents.
Reordering and moving pages
Touch and hold a page and drag it to a new place. To move pages to another document (or a new one), open the document, choose Select Pages, then Move.
Importing PDFs and pictures
Use the import button on the Scans screen, or Add from Files in a document. You can also share a PDF to ClearScan from Files, Mail or a messenger.
Sharing and saving
Share PDF creates a searchable PDF; Save PDF to Files saves it to your iPhone or iCloud Drive. For email limits, choose Settings → PDF Size → Smaller File.
Copying text
Open a page and tap Text to see and copy the recognized text. The Scans screen search finds documents by name and by their text.
Privacy and storage
Does ClearScan need internet?
No. Everything, including text recognition, works on your iPhone without a connection. See the Privacy Policy.
Locking the app
Turn on Settings → Lock with Face ID (or Touch ID / passcode). Your documents are also hidden in the app switcher.
Backing up
Scans are part of your iPhone's backup. To keep copies elsewhere, share them as PDFs to Files or another app.
